NAHT at the TUC LGBT+ Conference

NAHT proposed its first ever motion at the TUC LGBT+ Conference, which took place in London last week. Every year, the TUC hosts a series of equality conferences, and this, the last in the series, took place on 3 and 4 July 2025 at Congress House.

The motion called for greater LGBT+ inclusivity in our schools and the removal of the parental right to request withdrawal of their children from sex education. It was voted through unanimously and was one of the most-supported motions. Seconded by the PCS, there were speakers supporting the motion from the NEU, NASUWT, UCU, Unison, Unite, the RMT and the FDA.

Themes of the day included:

  • stronger workplace rights and protections for LGBT+ people
  • ending discrimination, harassment, and hate crimes
  • equal and inclusive healthcare access
  • defending trans rights and gender diversity
  • global solidarity for LGBT+ rights
  • protecting LGBT+ culture, spaces, and representation
  • building intersectional unity against the far right.

NAHT’s LGBT+ Network is an informal group for our LGBT+ members. Led by members, for members, it  helps amplify the voices of our LGBT+ members within NAHT, as well as providing support, information and networking opportunities. Find out more about NAHT’s LGBT+ Network.
