This course will support delegates to consider their level of knowledge of the RSHE provision in their school and to consider how the statutory expectations of leaders has changed since September 2021.
Leaders will consider this aspect of their role and their own CPD needs and opportunities. There will be particular focus on the latest research to ensure that young people have the skills and knowledge to keep themselves and others safe.
You will also consider how to embed high quality RSHE into the school quality cycle.
Aims
Achieving high quality RSE school-wide
With RSHE now mandatory in schools, a generation of pupils are beginning to access updated curricula, but many schools also recognise they have further to go, for example in order to train teaching and support staff, engage with parents and carers and ensure that delivery is informed by the research evidence about what works.
Join this half-day event to:
- Check in with other school leaders and find out about effective approaches to implementing the guidance
- Troubleshoot technicalities of the statutory RSHE guidance (2019)
- Access an audit tool to review progress in delivering high quality RSE and highlight focus areas
- Review the involvement of your whole-school community, considering what ongoing parental and pupil engagement might involve
- Develop understanding of young people’s experiences of RSE and where the gaps are
- Explore the competences needed to teach evidence-based RSE and identify the priorities for staff training
- Consider next steps for achieving and sustaining high quality RSE and what resources are needed
- Pinpoint areas where further advice and guidance is needed in order to implement high quality, compliant RSE
