Bereavement – including a model bereavement policy for schools

It is inevitable that schools will work with children, young people and adults affected by death in one way or another, with schools having a key role supporting those affected. This advice and model policy will help settings consider how they can support children, families and staff in school when a death has occurred, while being aware of individual, family, cultural and religious factors that influence people’s responses to both death and suicide.

NAHT worked closely with the charity Winston’s Wish in producing this template policy on bereavement.
