Effective Management of Sickness Absence

This course covers three key elements.

Firstly, School leaders will explore what is meant by the effective management of sickness absence in schools, and how school staff may be supported and helped back to work from short and long-term illness. Secondly, you will discuss and analyse sickness absence policies in order to identify good and poor practice. Finally, School leaders will explore some key skills, during which you will have the opportunity to share good practice.

By the end of the day, delegates will have developed some practical ideas and skills that can be taken back and applied in your school.

Aims

  • Understand what is meant by managing sickness absence effectively - explore the employer's duty of care by analysing aspects of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Fit Notes and Absence Monitoring
  • Be able to review sickness absence policies by understanding the relevant aspects of equality and contract Law
  •  Develop the skills and knowledge to handle sickness absence well

  • Analyse different approaches to the management of sickness absence in schools

  • Identify good practice when applying sickness absence policies in an educational setting

  • Evaluate a real case study and identify a plan of action for developing best practice
