Response to the latest guidance

A message from NAHT Cymru to members in Wales

Following today’s publication by the Welsh Government of guidance for the Autumn term, I have prepared this statement: “We welcome the fact that schools now have a degree of clarity about what the September return will look like. Schools can now begin to put plans in place to welcome all pupils back next term. However, we should not underestimate the scale of the logistical challenges this guidance will pose school leaders in particular. We should make no mistake, this is not a return to ‘business as usual’ and there is a great deal of work that now needs to be done.

“There are a number of specific areas where we still need clarity from Welsh government. These include their recommendations round the use of face coverings, and how they expect wrap around care to operate.

“It is essential that Welsh government continue to engage with us on these and other matters too so that schools and parents alike have full confidence in the government’s plan for a full return in September.”

Education Minister Kirsty Williams and Co-chair of TAC Fliss Bennee are joining our NAHT Cymru webinar tomorrow evening, where you will have the opportunity to put questions to them directly. If you have not already registered to join us for this event, which begins at 4pm, please do so here.

I would like to take this opportunity to commend our members’ hard work and dedication over the past four months, in steering the education profession through this pandemic. I assure you that we will be in minimal contact over the holiday period, as we would not want to take up any more of your well-earned break than is necessary. However, we are available throughout the holiday period should you wish to contact us.

Yn dilyn cyhoeddi canllawiau gan Lywodraeth Cymru heddiw ar gyfer tymor yr Hydref, rwyf wedi paratoi'r datganiad hwn: “Rydym yn croesawu’r ffaith bod gan ysgolion bellach rywfaint o eglurder ynglŷn â sut olwg fydd ar gynlluniau ar gyfer ddychwelyd i’r ysgol fis Medi. Gall ysgolion nawr ddechrau rhoi cynlluniau ar waith i groesawu pob disgybl yn ôl y tymor nesaf. Fodd bynnag, ni ddylem fychanu maint yr heriau ymarferol y bydd y canllawiau hyn yn eu peri i arweinwyr ysgolion yn benodol. Byddai’n gamgymeriad meddwl mai dychwelyd i’r ysgol ar gyfer dechrau tymor newydd fel arfer yw hwn, ac mae yn lawer iawn o waith y mae angen ei wneud nawr.

“Mae yna nifer o feysydd penodol lle mae angen eglurder arnom o hyd gan Lywodraeth Cymru. Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys eu hargymhellion ynghylch defnyddio gorchuddion wyneb, a sut maen nhw'n disgwyl i ofal cynhwysfawr weithredu.

“Mae’n hanfodol bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn parhau i ymgysylltu â ni ar y materion hyn a materion eraill hefyd, fel bod gan ysgolion a rhieni fel ei gilydd hyder llawn yng nghynllun y llywodraeth ar gyfer dychwelyd i’r ysgol ym mis Medi.

Dilynwch y dolenni hyn i weld y dogfennau gweithredol a’r canllawiau dysgu.

Mae’r Gweinidog Addysg Kirsty Williams a Chyd-gadeirydd TAC Fliss Bennee yn ymuno â gweminar NAHT Cymru fin-nos yfory, lle byddwch chi’n cael cyfle i ofyn cwestiynau yn uniongyrchol. Os nad ydych chi eisoes wedi cofrestru i ymuno â ni ar gyfer y digwyddiad hwn, sy'n dechrau am 4pm, gwnewch hynny yma.

Hoffwn fanteisio ar y cyfle hwn i ganmol gwaith caled ac ymroddiad ein haelodau dros y pedwar mis diwethaf, wrth lywio'r proffesiwn addysg trwy'r pandemig hwn. Gallaf eich sicrhau y byddwn mewn cyn lleied o gyswllt â phosibl â chi dros gyfnod y gwyliau, gan nad ydym am darfu ar eich gwyliau haeddiannol yn fwy na sy'n angenrheidiol. Fodd bynnag, rydym ar gael trwy gydol y gwyliau os ydych chi am gysylltu â ni.
