Falling Short: The deepening school funding crisis in Wales – our new report sounds the alarm over budget cuts

NAHT Cymru has launched a new report, Falling Short: The deepening school funding crisis in Wales. The report is based on a 2024 survey of NAHT members and provides an update on the ongoing crisis that is school funding in Wales.

For too long, schools have suffered at the hands of austerity, and unfunded pay awards and the cost-of-living crisis have left many schools at breaking point. The report demonstrates the real impact funding cuts are having to staffing, and the knock-on effect this will inevitably have on the delivery of education.

A third of all schools are struggling with budget deficits now, and more than half of all schools will be in the coming year.

We are calling for all 22 local authorities in Wales to work with us so that together we can ensure schools have the necessary resources to provide high-quality education and support the well-being of every child in Wales.

Now more than ever we need to stand together, speak out and campaign for the money schools so desperately need.
