NAHT responds to Ofsted’s consultation on complaints about inspection

NAHT has responded to Ofsted’s consultation on complaints about inspection.

Our response welcomes the inspectorate’s desire to improve dialogue during inspection and offer more opportunities to raise concerns during and immediately after an inspection. 

We are less convinced about the proposals for formal challenges to inspection outcomes, which differ little from current arrangements; or proposals to replace second-stage complaints in favour of referral to the ICASO process, as this has no power to change judgements. We are clear that a fully independent complaints system is required, so that the inspectorate does not mark its own work.
