Last weekend, NAHT joined colleagues from NEU at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival – to meet with other trade unionists and campaigners and take part in a joint fringe debate about child poverty.

NAHT general secretary Paul Whiteman and NAHT president Paul Gosling joined other powerful speakers to make a clear link between growing child poverty and the wages crisis, and issue a ‘clarion call’ for the trade unions to work together.

NAHT national secretary Rob Kelsall, whose team organised NAHT’s attendance, said: “We are proud to be there alongside our sister unions and organisations working to support children during the current difficult times.”

The small Dorset village of Tolpuddle is where the British trade union movement began, and the annual festival celebrates that struggle and highlights the continuing efforts of working people to improve their conditions.
