NAHT successfully challenges the DfE over the forced academisation of Hallam Diocese schools

The Secretary of State for Education has agreed to withdraw academy orders that were sent to schools in the Catholic Diocese of Hallam, after NAHT and other education unions warned that they were ‘unlawful’.

NAHT joined forces with ASCL, NEU and UNISON and wrote to Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi, threatening legal action if the orders were not withdrawn. On 28 February, Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi formally withdrew them.

As the government prepares to launch its education reform agenda, this is a great success for all those who took part in the campaign  and a timely reminder that the government and those in control of education can’t ignore the laws and procedures established to protect schools and their communities.
