Planning for a full return to school in September

On 28 August 2020, the government published its plan for schools should further attendance restrictions be required next year. You can find the details of the ‘tiered approach’ to potential school closures in annex three of this webpage.

On Thursday 2 July 2020, the Department for Education (DfE) published guidance outlining its plan for getting all pupils back to school in September. You can read that guidance in full here.

To support members, NAHT has produced a short guide outlining the key points contained within that guidance. You can find a summary of the guidance for maintained nursery schools and other early years settings here.

We sent our initial response to the government's plan in an email to members, which you can read here.

Many members have submitted questions to us about the DfE's guidance. Some of these we have been able to answer ourselves; in other cases, we have sought answers from the DfE. You can find the answers to the questions our members have raised to date here

The Joint Biosecurity Centre has published a series of action cards to support education settings in dealing with reported cases of covid-19, find out more here.

United Learning has produced a document on examples of protective measures. It gives examples of how different schools are approaching the government’s guidance. You may find these helpful when considering your approach.

If you have a specific question about the return to school in September that is not covered in either the summary document or the members' questions document, or if you need further advice, please contact our advice team (call 0300 30 30 333 and select option one. Alternatively, email specialistadvice@naht.org.uk).

If you would like to provide feedback to us about the government's plans to inform our conversations with them, please email policy@naht.org.uk.
