  • Prime Minister's questions: ICT in schools IT, ICT, learning, bullying, computer, teachHaving been asked in parliament whether assistance will be provided to schools affected by the reduction in the Harnessing Technology Grant Nick Gibb, Minister for Schools said that ICT infrastructure is now well-embedded in schools. NAHT believes that the assumption that ICT infrastructure is 'well embedded' needs to be examined and challenged. This rigour is essential to avoid a potentially dubious and precarious an assumption becoming the basis for policy in this area. 30 July 2010

  • Funding for free schools to come from school IT budgets ICT fundingMinisters have decided to double the amount of money being taken out of the key 'harnessing technology' fund to £100 million, in part to finance the free schools policy. This comes shortly after Michael Gove said he planned to take only £50 million away from the initiative, which pays for new computers and broadband connections. Mick Brookes, NAHT General Secretary, said "This leaves schools in a mess. Heads have told me theyve done what they were supposed to and have spent the money already." 30 July 2010

NAHT was vociferous with the previous government in demanding more time for these formulae to be put in place. Indeed, the original implementation date was put back a year in response to these demands. 27 July 2010
