Eligibility & Application

  • Must have retired from a full-time senior leadership role and be entitled to retirement benefits (typically age 55+).
  • Apply within six months of ending full or associate NAHT membership.
  • Written confirmation of retirement date is required to transition your membership.

Life membership does not include public liability or professional indemnity insurance. Preferential rates available via partner James Hallam ProMed for self-employed members.

Working After Retirement

  • Includes part-time classroom cover (0–19 years) for the first 12 months.
  • Additional cover available annually (tax-deductible).
  • If returning to interim leadership, life membership can be upgraded and reinstated afterward.
  • Other work types should be discussed with Member Support.

 

Costs

Rates for 2025:

An initial fee is payable in your first year:   

Executive leader £512.04

Head teachers £485.64

Deputy / vice heads £395.16

Assistant / vice heads £277.92

School business leaders £277.92

Middle leaders (NAHT Edge) £204.84

Associate members £249.48

  
Thereafter an annual fee of just £48.33 is chargeable.

Prices are correct as of 1 September 2025 and will be reviewed in September 2026.
