Responding to new Ofsted research on how 'early adopter' schools and colleges are integrating AI into teaching, learning and administration, Sarah Hannafin, head of policy for school leaders’ union NAHT, said:
“Teachers are struggling with unsustainable levels of workload, and this snapshot of progress in early adopter schools and colleges highlights AI’s potential to make some written tasks quicker and easier for teachers, such as marking and lesson planning.
“School leaders and teachers certainly need training and guidance in order to feel confident using AI, however, and the technology should be introduced gradually in order to maximise its potential and mitigate the risks.
“These tools cannot replace the judgement and specialist knowledge of a human expert, and it is crucial that teachers retain professional oversight.”
