Commenting on today's GCSE and vocational qualification results, NAHT national secretary Dr Graham Gault, said: “I would like to congratulate all learners receiving their GCSE and vocational qualification results across Wales today.
"Behind every grade lies a great deal of effort from students themselves and the support of teachers, school leaders, support staff and families who have helped them reach this important milestone.
"As young people take their next steps, whether into further study, training or employment, they should do so with confidence and pride.
"These results are a testament to their hard work and to the dedication of the education workforce, which continues to support children and young people in increasingly challenging circumstances.
“It’s vital young people have a better choice of academic, technical and vocational pathways at Key Stage 4 and beyond, which reflect their strengths, interests and future ambitions as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.
"GCSEs alone do not meet the needs of all students, even for those who continue to pursue a more traditional academic route."
