Responding as Plaid Cymru speak to their plans for education if elected during their Spring Conference today (Fri 27 Feb), Laura Doel, national secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT Cymru, said:
“It’s really positive to hear Plaid Cymru talking about getting back to basics and a focus on allowing teachers and leaders to do what they do best. School leaders will be glad to hear that there were no vanity projects and that the profession has been listened to when it comes to focusing on its core purpose.
“Increasing the percentage target of children learning through the medium of Welsh from 40% by 2050 to 50% is ambitious to say the least and we are keen to understand how that would happen given the significant challenges of upskilling the workforce when resources are so stretched.
“We look forward to seeing how, if elected, a Plaid government would create space in a system littered with priorities to focus on core purpose. And to hearing more on the one key question that still remains unanswered – giving education in Wales the resource it needs to deliver.”
