Family Gateway: NAHT Charity Partner 2025/2026

Family Gateway has existed to serve some of the most disadvantaged communities in North Tyneside and the wider North East since 2011.
Family Gateway work hand in hand with local people to reduce the impact of poverty for children and their families. They do this by the promoting parental employment via the provision of volunteering, training and employment to local people. Alongside this, they offer bespoke and holistic support in the home to remove barriers to success for families and can feel better prepared to participate in their community.
Family Gateway’s Barefoot Professional Model™ provides people the security, resources and coaching to work in community spaces that facilitate lasting social change in their own communities. The Barefoot Professional Model staff work in a uniquely hands on manner, tailoring their approach to fit perfectly to each case. They have often had similar experiences to the people they serve. They can understand some of what their service users are experiencing as they’ve quite often experienced it themselves: money worries, housing trouble, debt, challenging behaviours in the family. Their experience serves as an example that there are many roads to success. They can offer real world strategies that allow them to build their way towards the life they want.
Another part of Family Gateway’s work is delivered in schools, supporting pupils and staff to remove barriers to attainment and increase aspiration. As well as hands-on delivery of things like reading sessions, gardening clubs and other pastoral activities, they have created in-house support services bespoke to several local schools. As a small, agile charity, Family Gateway are able to provide services that fit the unique challenges of a wide range of SEND and mainstream settings. This support leads to demonstrable improvements in attendance, behaviour and relationships in the home.
In partnership with the NAHT, Family Gateway will continue to support local school leaders to deliver the best possible outcomes for all their pupils.
