Write to your MP about Covid exceptional costs
School budgets continue to be stretched up and down the UK despite recent investment from the government. Additionally, the covid-19 pandemic has meant school leaders face significant and increasing costs to make their schools covid secure. Schools are implementing measures that have been required by the government to keep our children, staff and communities safe.
The government has made it clear they will not reimburse schools for any of these additional costs. Schools are therefore spending money from their existing budgets which were planned and set months in advance of the pandemic.
Furthermore, many schools have lost significant sums from their income streams as they are unable to let school premises due to lockdown restrictions. This creates a ‘double whammy’ effect, placing school finances under huge strain. Unlike the business community, schools are not eligible for grants to alleviate these financial pressures.
