Responding to the news that local government staff will receive a 3.2% pay award for 2025/26 after Unison and GMB agreed to the offer from local government employers, Paul Whiteman, general secretary at school leaders’ union NAHT, said:
“All school staff, from our own members to their valued support staff, deserve fair pay.
“Now this offer has been agreed, it’s vital school leaders receive the funding needed to pay this increase, with many schools facing severe financial pressures.
“NAHT represents school business leaders (SBLs) whose salaries are determined by this award and we have long called for them to be paid on a range aligned with other senior school leaders.
“We want to see a national pay framework for SBLs which recognises their leadership responsibilities and ensures consistent, fairer pay and grading.”
