DESC submits final pay offer

NAHT’s Isle of Man members will take part in a new consultative ballot to see if they wish to accept a revised pay offer from the Department of Education, Sport and Culture (DESC).

A ballot of IOM members had been underway but has now been suspended following an amendment to the previous offer made by the government.

The revised offer includes amended pay scales that will be backdated to the 1st September 2021, with lecturers pay to be aligned with teachers. A commitment has also been made for the introduction of up to twenty cover supervisors to work across all phases in schools with a pledge made to start this recruitment immediately. Additionally the offer includes a promise that pay talks for 2022/23 will commence immediately.

Robert KelsallNational Secretary at NAHT said: “I am pleased that the Department have improved upon the previous offer made, it is certainly a move in the right direction. It is encouraging that a commitment has been made to review pay scales and immediately begin work on recruiting  an additional 20 new Cover Supervisors,

“As a democratic union it will now be down to our IOM members to decide if this offer is sufficient”

A previous offer made in January was rejected by a ballot of serving NAHT members in the Isle of Man by 55-45%. NAHT subsequently requested a reopening of negotiations in light of the decision by members, which resulted in further talks and the improved offer made today.

The latest offer will be presented to members, and this will be followed by a consultative ballot of members which will open Friday 6th and close noon Friday 13th May.
