NAHT Cymru welcomes extension of NQT pilot programme

The Education Minister has announced that the Welsh Government have extended the NQT pilot programme they started during the pandemic – as called for by NAHT Cymru.

Laura Doel, director of school leaders’ union NAHT Cymru, said: “The NQT programme delivered a much-needed boost to schools at the beginning of what continues to be a very challenging academic year.

“Its success has not only helped newly-qualified teachers gain great on-the-job experience, it has delivered much needed support in those schools that were lucky enough to be allocated one of the additional staff members paid for by the Welsh Government.

“NAHT Cymru had called on the government to extend the programme for the rest of the academic year and we are pleased to see those teachers will now remain in post throughout the summer term to support schools who are still very-much dealing with the pandemic.”
