This guidance has been written to support school leaders in England and Wales in managing staff requests relating to religious observance in schools. 

It has been prepared with the help of NAHT National Executive member Nazma Jassat, to whom we are particularly grateful for providing her knowledge and experience in this area.

This advice outlines the legal framework relating to religious observance and the need for school leaders to implement a fair approach to the management of it, focusing particularly upon fostering an inclusive environment while also considering the requirements of the school.
