Responding to today's GCSE and vocational qualification results, Dr Graham Gault, national secretary at NAHT Northern Ireland, said: “Congratulations to all the young people receiving their GCSE and vocational qualification results today.
"These outcomes reflect years of hard work, determination and resilience, supported by dedicated teachers, school leaders, support staff and families.
"Whether students are progressing to A levels, further education, training, apprenticeships or employment, they should be proud of what they have achieved. Today is also a reminder of the extraordinary commitment shown by school staff across Northern Ireland, who continue to deliver for children despite significant pressures on the education system.
“It’s vital young people have a better choice of academic, technical and vocational pathways at Key Stage 4 and beyond, which reflect their strengths, interests and future ambitions as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. GCSEs alone do not meet the needs of all students, even for those who continue to pursue a more traditional academic route."
