Exclusions and parental complaints - half-day briefings

Two challenging topics – exclusions and parental complaints – have been singled out to give senior leaders a broader understanding of the exclusions process and best practice for dealing with parental complaints. We are running seven briefings in the spring and summer terms: 

  • 16 February 2018 at Moat House Acton Trussell, Stafford  
  • 23 March 2018 at the Holiday Inn, Portsmouth 
  • 16 April 2018 at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel and Spa, Sheffield 
  • 23 April 2018 at Royal Station Hotel, Newcastle 
  • 8 June 2018 at the Holiday Inn, Cambridge 
  • 22 June 2018 at the Mercure Bristol Holland House Hotel and Spa, Bristol

Programme    

1.30pm - Registration and arrival refreshments
1.45pm - 3.15pm - Exclusions 

Delegates will return to school following this session with a broader understanding of the exclusions process (including appeals) - both in terms of the statutory position and good practice in carrying out the process. This will be underpinned by an understanding of the differences between the previous and revised DfE's guidance documents.

3.15pm - 3.30pm - Break

3.30pm - 5pm - Dealing with parental complaints        
This session offers practical advice and support in dealing with parental complaints/concerns. Content includes:

  • The importance of having a robust and clear procedure
  • Building confidence in dealing with challenging behaviours
  • Resolving matters effectively
  • Managing persistent/serial complainants.
