Early Years mastery - Birmingham

This one-day course will enable you to learn new ways of maximising opportunities to drive progress for the maximum number of children. You will be supported to consider how you can diminish differences in progress and attainment, and you will leave with tools and materials to help you at school.

You will consider how children learn and how essential the indoor and outdoor environment is in enabling children to deepen their understanding and apply their skills. You will evaluate the purpose and context of your environment and ensure you fully understand the purpose and importance of outside.

By the end of the day, you will:

  • Understand what mastery might look like in an early years classroom/setting
  • Know how to build on existing good practice to ensure a mastery approach inside and outside
  • Understand what practitioners already do that could be mastery
  • Understand how the application of learning is supported in the classroom and outside
  • Evaluate the purpose and context of learning and improve practice
  • Make the link between mastery in the early years and mastery in year one – supporting the transition
  • To use your baseline, barriers and strengths, use the Early Learning Goal as an endpoint of learning and devise an accelerated pathway for learning for children, which includes a mastery approach inside and outside
  • To consider how best to assess ‘exceeding’ and look carefully at ‘school readiness’ and devise a transition plan to ensure progress into year 1
