Through the exploration of your role and responsibilities, this course helps you to identify a personal development plan to support or complement your new position.

Feel confident and competent in all areas of responsibility that may be required of you and help your school to maintain its focus and continue to progress the priorities in your school plan. By learning how to lead and manage change, build effective partnerships and influence others, this will be  the key to your success.

  • identify your strengths and priority areas for your development
       
  • compare and contrast roles and responsibilities of being in a senior leadership team
       
  • come  away with strategies for increasing greater participation and  engagement of others in taking forward change and, having practiced  these, with greater confidence to use the strategies
       
  • develop a forward-looking induction and professional development plan reflecting on both the needs of you and your school
       
  • determine the importance of influencing others and of developing wider partnerships
       
  • consider the range and scope of roles and responsibilities of deputy and assistant head teachers
       
  • consider the key areas of headship and identify those where you have already had some experience
       
  • formulate  a development plan which includes suggested areas where you can build  on your strengths and identifies areas wher you can gain further  experience, which can then be shared with your head teacher on return to  school
       
  • clarify the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership
       
  • explore  and practise a range of problem-solving/evaluation techniques when  implementing and supporting change which can be used in school
       
  • identify strengths of the school's partnerships and identify any areas for further development
       
  • consider the barriers to partnership working and consider strategies for reducing these
