Whiteman: School leaders and governors share the same concerns

Responding to the publication today of the National Governance Association’s (NGA) annual survey of governors, School Governance in 2019, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said:

“This report looks all too familiar. Funding, support for pupils with special educational needs, and staff workload and wellbeing are the three key concerns our members tell us they are facing as well. Governors and school leaders are united in trying to keep schools afloat in the face of sometimes seemingly insurmountable challenges.

“We now need to see exactly what is announced in the Chancellor’s spending review tomorrow. It would be disastrous if the detail didn’t live up to the headlines. It would be entirely wrong if the money announced for schools on Friday is immediately swallowed the government’s proposals on increasing salaries.”
