Schools should be peaceful and calm places; children should not have to experience noisy and aggressive protests. Every school has a duty to eliminate discrimination. School leaders and their teams, who are carrying out this duty, have faced threats against their careers and their personal safety. The protests must be brought to an end now.
There is very widespread agreement – from the general public, education experts, and the law – that it is appropriate to teach primary age children that there are different kinds of relationships, and that not every family is the same. We agree with the Secretary of State that ‘diversity and equality are a matter of fact and a matter of law and learning about them is not optional.’
