Commenting on the publication of Ofqual's report into inter-subject comparability in GCSE modern foreign languages, resulting in a planned grading adjustment to French and German GCSEs next year, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders' union NAHT, said:
"NAHT welcomes the extensive work that Ofqual has undertaken to consider the question of inter-subject comparability for GCSE Modern Foreign Languages.
"NAHT has raised concerns about these subjects related to perceptions of difficulty, declining entries and the recruitment of sufficient teachers.
"We hope that Ofqual’s decision to make a one off adjustment to grading in French and German will have a positive impact both for students and schools."
