Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said: “We are pleased to see the government taking action to support some of our most vulnerable children. We know that for many children lunch at school is their only hot meal of the day and, in some cases, their only meal full stop.
“There is no perfect or easy answer, but the government is doing the right thing in stepping forward and providing a solution. We will work with them to refine and improve this plan so that all children can continue to access the food they need.”
