Following an announcement by the DfE today (Weds 8 April) on their approach to school and college accountability, performance tables and data during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said:
“School leaders will welcome the government’s clarifications about the use of performance data based on tests, exams or assessments which were due to be taken in summer 2020.
“For secondary schools, this announcement will allow them to focus on their schools and their students and enable teachers to determine centre assessed grades objectively and free of external pressures.
“However, we do need to start to think about the impact the huge disruption to education this year will have on 2021 and reassure schools that the use of performance data next year will fairly reflect that.”
