NAHT comments on compulsory sex and relationships lessons

Responding to guidance launched by the Department for Education on statutory sex and relationships education today, Paul Whiteman, general secretary of school leaders’ union NAHT, said:

“Making relationships, sex and health education compulsory is absolutely the right thing to do. Schools have a vital role to play to ensure that all children and young people are able to learn about themselves, their physical and mental health, their relationships, and how to keep themselves safe, in an age appropriate way. Otherwise, as is the case now, too many children get bad and even harmful information from the internet or from their peers. School leaders welcome the government’s backing on this issue. It really is too important a subject to get wrong.”
