In the autumn of 2019, NAHT Edge published a report entitled ‘About Time’, which examined what life was like as a middle leader. The report also included a series of recommendations to the government.
We were pleased to see that, subsequently, the Labour MP for Birmingham, Edgbaston (Preet Gill) tabled two parliamentary questions based on our findings.
These questions were:
- To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what plans he has to invest in continuing professional development for middle leaders in schools, as recommended in the National Association of Head Teachers' report entitled About Time: Life as a middle leader.
- To ask the Secretary of State for Education, whether he has made an assessment of the implications for his policies of the recommendations in the report by the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) entitled About Time: Life as a middle leader; and what discussions he has had with the NAHT on that report.
The Minister for School Standards has now responded to those questions and his responses can be found here.
We are pleased to see the report has had an impact within Westminster and that MPs are continuing to look to NAHT Edge as a strong and influential voice when it comes to middle leaders.
