Agreement with ETI on classroom observation in response to ongoing action short of strike
We continue to be the only one of the five main teaching unions in Northern Ireland not taking industrial action.
In response to our members' concern regarding inspection during action short of strike, we'd like to remind you of the agreement reached with the Education Training Inspectorate (ETI) in May 2017. It permits you to opt out of classroom observation if you are the only member of staff not involved in industrial action against the employer.
This arrangement is to prevent our members from becoming a proxy for the quality of teaching and learning in the school. We know our members deliver excellence in education, but it would not give an accurate picture of standards across the school.
Give our letter on the agreement with ETI to your principal if your school faces inspection.
