NAHT is supporting the Children’s Society campaign to support more low-income families. Whilst in the first pilot of Universal Credit benefits, all families were entitled to a free school meal for their children, the government is proposing to limit this in the national rollout so that working families earning more than £7,400 won’t be entitled. We believe this will mean that many children living in poverty will miss out on nutritious meals.
You can support the campaign in two ways:
1. Write to your MP asking for a change to ensure that more working poor families can benefit.
2. Complete the Children’s Society's short survey for teachers and school leaders to give your views on this issue.
