Maintained nursery schools made their voice heard in Parliament and in Downing Street

Nursery funding rally 11 March 389x267.jpg

On 11 March, more than 700 head teachers, parents, teachers, teaching assistants, governors and nursery nurses lobbied MPs and marched to Downing Street to deliver a letter to the chancellor that was signed by more than 320 maintained nursery schools from across the country.

Nadhim Zahawi MP, parliamentary under-secretary of state for children and families, and a host of MPs from all sides of the house attended the lobby and signed our pledge card at the meeting in Parliament.

Chancellor Philip Hammond unveils the spring budget on 13 March, and the comprehensive spending review is due to get underway in the coming months. We want to ensure we keep the pressure up to secure sustainable funding for all of our maintained nursery schools across the country.

NAHT is proud to have worked with Early Education and the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Nursery Schools, Nursery and Reception Classes to organise events on 11 March - together we’re stronger.

Keep a look out for regional summits NAHT will be hosting across the country this summer to shine a light on the impact the funding crisis is having on UK schools. They will be free to attend and are available to members and non-members. Email organising@naht.org.uk for more information.
