How do I update my personal contact details?

To change your home address, email address, telephone number, etc., simply email membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk and we will be pleased to update our records. Please include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes.

How do I access professional support and assistance?

If the guidance and advice you are looking for isn’t covered on our website, email specialistadvice@naht.org.uk or call 0300 00 44 44 43 (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday)

How much does membership cost?

£13.50 per month (£162 per year), payable by direct debit. There are also options for part time, overseas and retired ‘life’ members.

Can I get tax relief on my membership and if so, how?

Yes. Our subscriptions are tax deductible. Find out more.

Can I pay my subscription any other way?

To keep administrative costs to a minimum, monthly payment by Direct Debit is the only payment method we currently offer.

How do I change the details for my Direct Debit?

Call our membership team on 0300 00 44 443 with your new account details and we’ll set up your new direct debit by phone. If you prefer to complete a new paper Direct Debit instruction or have a joint account requiring two signatures on a Direct Debit instruction, download a form here.

My bank account details are changing and my bank is switching my Direct Debit instructions for me. Do I need to let you know?

No. Your bank will provide us with the new account details and we’ll update our records. You’ll have evidence the switch has been successful when you see your NAHT Edge membership subscription debit on your new bank account statement.

What happens if I cancel my NAHT Edge Direct Debit at my bank?

Your bank will notify us about the cancellation of the Direct Debit, and we’ll be required to stop calling for payment. An overdue subscription will affect your access to support and advice. More information is available here.

What happens if there were insufficient funds in my bank account when my subscription payment was due?

Your bank will notify us that the payment has been declined. The payment for that month will remain due. We’ll contact you to let you know we’ll debit two instalments the following month, so your membership subscription remains fully paid up and your cover is maintained.

Why has the cost of my membership increased?

If your subscription amount has increased, it may be because you joined on a promotional offer or because our fees have increased. We’ll always notify you about any change to your subscription.

I work part time. Can I get a reduction on my membership fees?

Yes. Anybody who works 0.6FTE or less is eligible for a 40 per cent reduction.

My hours have changed since I joined NAHT Edge. What should I do? (eg I’ve changed to part-time working, or I’m on maternity, paternity or adoption leave)

Email the details to membersupport@nahtedge.or.uk, so we can make any changes necessary to your membership. We’ll contact you by email at least 10 working days in advance to notify you of any change to your subscription amount payable by Direct Debit.

I've recently become an assistant head. Should I join NAHT Edge or NAHT?

The choice is yours. As an assistant head, you’re eligible to be a member of either organisation. NAHT and NAHT Edge both provide union membership suited to assistant head teachers, but differ in the career stage they focus on and how their services are delivered. NAHT concentrates on whole-school leadership matters; NAHT Edge has an emphasis on curriculum and pedagogy, and provides support if you’re leading a department, subject or year.

Both forms of membership offer tailored face-to-face small-group training courses. Find out more here.

I’ve taken on a new role or another role. What should I do?

Email the details to membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk (include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes).

What happens if I’m promoted to senior leadership (ie I become a deputy or head teacher)?

Congratulations on your promotion. You're now eligible for NAHT, but no longer for NAHT Edge. Email membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk for assistance in transferring your membership (include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes).  Assistant head teachers can choose between NAHT and NAHT Edge. You may like to check eligibility here.

What if I retire while I’m an NAHT Edge member?

Contact us at membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk to discuss our life membership option. Please include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes.

I’ve retired or resigned from my post at school, or I’ll be retiring or resigning from my post soon. What should I do about my NAHT Edge membership?

Your NAHT Edge membership will need to be brought to a close at the right time. To notify us of your change of circumstances, email membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk (include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes).

I’ve left my job, but an NAHT official is still supporting me. What should I do about my membership?

We’ll continue to support you until the conclusion of the case, but you must keep paying your membership subscription. Don’t cancel your Direct Debit. Once the matter is concluded, contact membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk so we can advise on your membership options (include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes).

Why has NAHT launched NAHT Edge?

Teachers need the best support possible if they’re to reach their own potential and help each of their students to flourish. Our research shows those with responsibilities beyond their own classroom need professional association and union services tailored to their specific needs, delivered in a way that suits them. More information is available here.

How will you handle any conflicts between individual NAHT senior leaders and NAHT Edge middle leaders?

NAHT Edge has been established to help prevent conflict between all teachers by developing middle leaders in schools to be the glue that binds staff together. However, should any issues arise between members we’ll handle this as we would between NAHT members, for example, between a head teacher and their deputy. This means keeping information separate, confidential and ensuring both sides have equal levels of representation.

What will you do if government policy causes a conflict of interest between middle and senior leaders?

We don’t anticipate many such situations because our overriding concern is ultimately about what the evidence suggests is best for all learners and for education as a whole. However, should such tensions arise we have a clear and transparent process in place that will allow decisions to be made and then communicated.

What happens when my membership is due for renewal?

On commencement of your membership, you entered into an annual rolling contract with us. Your membership will be renewed automatically unless we hear from you to the contrary. You’ll be notified no later than 10 working days before your membership is due to expire. Written notification will be sent to the most recent email address you’ve provided. To update this address or other details, email membersupport@nahtedge.org.uk (include your membership number or date of birth for identification purposes).
