Restructuring - a brief guide

The process of making cuts to a school's budget will inevitably involve, at some point, consideration of reducing staff numbers. 

A variety of terms are attributed to describe this process - 'managing change', 'reorganisation', 'reshaping', 'restructuring' and so on.  We've opted for restructuring, on the grounds that schools often want or need to adjust their organisational structures in order to reduce staffing costs whereas 'managing change' is, we'd argue, a continuous activity for any school leader.

This brief guide will help to shape your early thinking about what you will have to have in mind in the event that you are looking to reduce staff numbers and the steps and choreography needed to achieve this.
