Recruiting a head teacher

Vacancy.jpg

Our members regularly call us to enquire about and discuss the process of recruiting a head teacher or school leader; this is typically when members have confirmed their intention to leave their posts, when they are looking to appoint a school leader or when their governing body has asked them for the latest guidance on the process and good practice for recruiting their replacement.

This paper summarises and sets out the non-statutory guidance and good practice when looking to recruit and select a head teacher; in equal measure, the guidance can also be used to support schools and employers to recruit other school leadership roles.
