The government has announced its intention to extend the offer of free childcare to 30 hours for the children of working parents from September 2017. While the exact framework and guidelines are still being finalised, we are now more familiar with how the government’s proposal will work since they published their response to the consultation in November 2016.
The regulations which will set out the legal framework for the delivery of the extended entitlement still need to be debated in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Once these debates have concluded (this should be early in 2017) the government will publish the final regulations.
