Education Support

We’re the only mental health charity that is dedicated to teachers and all education staff. As well as being mental health experts, we really understand the unique challenges of working in the education sector.

Working in partnership with organisations like NAHT, we support individuals and help schools and colleges to improve the mental health and well-being of their staff. We also carry out research and advocate for changes in government policy for the benefit of the education workforce.

NAHT and Education Support have developed a toolkit to help school leaders maintain a healthy mind and culture during periods of challenge, such as inspections. It offers practical exercises, tools and tips to help you implement healthy habits support your own well-being, and maintain a mentally healthy working environment for yourselves and your team during times of challenge, plus there are two short videos to help support you and your team.

Find out more about our toolkit: How to maintain a healthy mind and culture during periods of challenge.

Our 2022 Teacher Wellbeing Index, conducted annually with YouGov, revealed that:

  • record numbers of UK teachers and education staff have considered leaving the sector in the past academic year due to pressures on their mental health and wellbeing

  • more than half of staff have actively sought to change or leave their current jobs, citing workload as the main factor

  • stress, depression and anxiety have all remained at an unsustainably high level.

We make a real impact on the lives and well-being of school leaders, teachers and education staff through our services. Last year, we provided direct support to 15,200 people working in education and worked with over 1000 schools and colleges.

As an NAHT member, you can access a dedicated, confidential counselling and support helpline on 0800 9174055 provided by Education Support. Open 24/7, it is staffed by qualified counsellors and offers you emotional and practical support.

Our Employee Assistance Programme gives your staff confidential support and guidance just when they need it most. The benefits of improved colleague wellbeing will be felt throughout your organisation. Please get in touch to find out more about putting it in place at your school.

Our confidential grants service is here to help you and your staff manage money worries. In the last year we have provided grants to over 400 people, helping to keep them in their jobs and in their homes.

As a charity we can’t provide these vital services without the generous donations of our supporters. Please could you donate to help someone when they have nowhere else to turn? Thank you.
