Changes to the EBacc attainment measure in 2018

The Department for Education (DfE) has released information about the EBacc performance measure and the criteria qualifications must meet to count towards it.

The attainment measure will change to a school's EBacc average point score for the results of exams taken in 2018 onwards.

To calculate a school's EBacc average point score, they will:

  • add together the EBacc average point score for all pupils at the end of key stage four
  • divide by the number of pupils in the group.

To calculate a pupil's average point score, they will:

  • take an average of the points scored in the five EBacc subject areas.
