NAHT receives response to National Tutoring Programme (NTP) Letter

On 2 May 2022, NAHT and ASCL wrote to the Secretary of State to raise our very serious concerns about new proposals to share data relating to schools’ use of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP).

In that letter, we complained about both the timing and content of the proposals. We were clear that it was completely unacceptable to write to school leaders about this matter on a Bank Holiday and highlighted that this was in breach of a number of commitments the department had made in relation to teachers’ and leaders’ well-being.

We also raised our strong concerns about this amounting to another, entirely inappropriate, accountability measure.

NAHT has now received a response to that letter from the Secretary of State.

While we welcome the apology made by the Secretary of State for the timing of the announcement, we remain concerned about the content of the proposal itself. NAHT will continue to engage with members on this issue and has requested a further meeting with the Department for Education to discuss this matter further
