NAHT Edge is a category of NAHT membership specifically for middle leaders. We offer tailored support and services for middle leaders, online advice and resources, and full trade union protection to give you peace of mind.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to join NAHT Edge, you need have a leadership responsibility within an education setting. Roles that are eligible include ALENCO, SENCO, phase leaders and subject leaders. This is not an exhaustive list and if you would like further clarification please email joinus@naht.org.uk.

Talking racism and mental health in schools: podcasts from the Anna Freud Centre

The Anna Freud Centre is creating a set of resources to help school staff understand the mental health impact of racism on children and young people and learn more about what they can do to tackle it.

As part of this, the Centre has released a new podcast series called Talking racism and mental health in schools where experts in mental health, education and anti-racism explore topics including representation, culture and community, breaking them down into simple advice and practical steps for schools.

Topics in the series include: an introduction to racism and mental health in schools; involving the whole school community; the impact of racism on self-esteem; why representation matters; and Black British culture and language in schools.

Guests on the podcasts include former teacher, campaigner, author and speaker, the Honourable Stuart Lawrence, and Eve Doran, researcher at Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health (BLAM). The podcasts also feature the voices and experiences of teachers.

The podcast series can be used to discuss these issues in schools, and support staff to help create a whole school community which is anti-racist.

The Anna Freud Centre will be releasing more resources in Spring 2022.
