The quiet state of the jobs market, with below the expected numbers of retirements, should not lull those responsible for the recruitment of Heads, into a false sense of security.

 

There is now a far greater proportion of Heads who are at an age, where they could choose to retire.  This is a crisis waiting to happen.

 

When these facts are aligned with the alarmingly high re-advertising rates:

 

27% - Secondary

35% - Primary

27% - Special

 

It is clear that there is a real problem just down the road. 

 

Mick Brookes, General Secretary NAHT comments as follows:

 

"We have been urging the Government and its agencies to do far more to attract recruits to the top job, including tackling workload and changing the negative culture of accountability".
