The quiet state of the jobs market, with below the expected numbers of retirements, should not lull those responsible for the recruitment of Heads, into a false sense of security.
There is now a far greater proportion of Heads who are at an age, where they could choose to retire. This is a crisis waiting to happen.
When these facts are aligned with the alarmingly high re-advertising rates:
27% - Secondary
35% - Primary
27% - Special
It is clear that there is a real problem just down the road.
Mick Brookes, General Secretary NAHT comments as follows:
"We have been urging the Government and its agencies to do far more to attract recruits to the top job, including tackling workload and changing the negative culture of accountability".
