The NAHT is pleased to announce the election of Russell Hobby, as its new General Secretary from September 2010.
Russell, an Assistant Director with the Hay Group, has two children in state Primaries, and was himself the product of a state secondary school leaving with 5 'A' levels. He then attended Oxford where he gained a First-Class Honours Degree.
Russell is only the third NAHT General Secretary in over thirty years following on from David Hart, and our current General Secretary, Mick Brookes.
Although Russell brings a range of skills he has identified that he will be a tough negotiator on behalf of school leaders, who he sees as continuing to play a vital role in developing the future high standards and creativity of our children and schools.
We are particularly pleased that one of the world's leading School Leader Associations has attracted such a dynamic and highly skilled leader of its own. Russell has worked with a number of education institutions including the National College, and the General Teaching Council, so is well-versed in the challenges that lie ahead. As General Secretary Designate , Russell will work closely with Mick Brookes to ensure a professional and effective handover.
“School leaders hold themselves accountable for high standards. They deserve a system that frees them to achieve those standards, based on what they know is right for their school. They deserve fair and meaningful measures of success. It is this sort of leadership that breaks down barriers and changes lives. It is this sort of leadership that NAHT fights for, and which I’m proud to be joining NAHT to fight for,” states Russell.
