For primary schools online reporting becomes a requirement from September 2012. Our understanding is that this remains the case although there is always the possibility that the forthcoming review into reducing bureaucracy (announced in the draft Structural Reform Plan for the Schools System published on July 13th) could include this requirement. The guidance is therefore to continue planning for its implementation.
Becta has been heavily involved in supporting schools in this area. This support will no longer be available from November but a number of useful guidance documents are available on Becta’s website. The expectation is that online reporting will encompass Attendance and Behaviour, Progress and Attainment and Special Educational Needs.
The Becta documentation refers to how the effective use of technology can introduce greater flexibility into the way in which teachers work. An example cited is that of learning platforms enabling teachers to write reports at home directly on to the system. NAHT has received reports from some members that some learning platforms do not have this capability. Schools that are planning to buy or replace a learning platform are advised to bear this in mind.
NAHT is anxious to gather information from members about their experience of planning and implementing online reporting, both positive and negative. The former could form the basis for assembling a body of good practice that can be disseminated whilst the later will highlight issues that the Association can raise with the body taking over Becta’s responsibilities. (as yet unknown)
Secondary online reporting takes place from September 2010.
NAHT is also anxious to gather information from secondary members about their experience of planning and implementing online reporting for the same reasons as outlined above.
