Prime Minister Gordon Brown has responded to Mick Brookes on the issue of records held on teachers against whom there has been some sort of accusation made.
In this letter, Gordon Brown refers to the guidance on record keeping for allegations made against those who work with children and young people, paragraph 5.10 of Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education. This says that a clear and comprehensive summary of any allegations made, details of how the allegation was followed up and resolved, and a note of any actions taken and decisions reached, should be kept on a person's confidential personnel file, and a copy provided to the person concerned.
