Requests for guidance have been received from members who boycotted KS2 SATs about arrangements for calculating CVA for the 2010 cohort. There is some uncertainty at present brought about by the apparent suspension of work on Raiseonline.
Members will be aware that schools have traditionally not received CVA analyses via Raiseonline until late in the Autumn term and that for inspection purposes, the previous year's data remains current until the new Raiseonline is published.
There has been no indication to date about how CVA will be calculated for the 25% of schools that boycotted the tests. However, it is apparent that the only data available will be that yielded from teacher assessment.
There have been 'ready reckoners' available in previous years to enable schools to calculate CVA but these have not been made available at this time of year. The coefficients used to derive CVA are adjusted each year and hence any 'legacy' tools are of restricted value.
In the short term, given the uncertainties outlined, schools are advised to produce detailed progress measures from KS1 to KS2 presented by micro-population, such as sex, ethnicity, SEND status, FSM, etc. Most schools will probably have a system in place for this purpose.
