School business managers (SBMs) are generally members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The NAHT is not part of the statutory negotiating machinery involved with the LGPS, and school business managers were not balloted over industrial action. The recent ballot was directly concerned with the Teachers Pension Scheme, where the NAHT is part of the negotiating mechanism.
School business managers are therefore not being called on by the NAHT to take action on 30 November.
The NAHT will continue to use all available avenues to press the government to reconsider its position on public sector pensions. We are lobbying strongly on this issue and adding our weight to that of like-minded organisations.
On a more general front, the association met with a group of SBMs to explore how we can deliver tailored guidance and support to members holding SBM posts. Further information on this will be available in the near future. The appointment of an SBM as a coopted member of the Association's National Executive is going ahead and further details will be circulated.
