Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance
There is currently a call for evidence from the sub-committee for Education, Skills and the Economy into careers provision in schools and colleges. It therefore seems timely to remind members of NAHT’s involvement with the Quality in Careers Standard (QiCS) award which is also supported by ASCL and the Association of Colleges. The following bullet points summarise this:
Further information is available from Siôn Humphreys at HQ who represents NAHT in the QiCS process.
- There are a number of Quality Awards for CEIAG available to schools. NAHT strongly advises schools to consider pursuing such an award. This reflects the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) statutory guidance (March 2015) which urges schools to pursue these awards. A list of providers is available here.
- The Quality in Careers Standard exists to provide national validation for the various Quality Award providers. As with all similar awards in other contexts, it provides assurance that the highest standards of provision are being met. NAHT sits on the validation board and participates in validation events
- The majority of the CEIAG Quality Award providers now have QiCS validation and the others are working towards it
- The criteria used when assessing a CEIAG Quality Award provider for QiCS validation also provide a useful checklist for schools to evaluate their own provision. Members familiar with the ‘benchmarks’ in the Gatsby report will recognise their congruence with these criteria. They are located here.
